Is the myLAB Box weight loss test worth $239?
Planning a health reset for the new year? Some people like to get a few numbers first. Here's what myLAB Box's At Home Weight Loss Test measures, how it works, what it costs, and cheaper ways to get similar numbers.

The short answer
- Price: $239 for a female or male kit, with free shipping and FSA/HSA cards accepted.
- What it measures: six markers from one finger-prick and one saliva sample. These are cortisol, DHEA, estradiol, HbA1c, progesterone or testosterone, and TSH.
- Results: usually 2 to 5 days after the lab gets your sample, online.
- Not available in New York State at the moment.
- It's a test, not a treatment. It won't make you lose weight, and it can't tell you on its own why your weight has changed.
It may suit you if you want several hormone and metabolic markers in one kit, collected at home with no clinic visit, and you can pay from an HSA or FSA. It may not if you mainly want blood sugar and thyroid numbers. A doctor can order those, and they can cost much less (see alternatives).

What the test measures
According to myLAB Box's product page, the kit measures:
- HbA1c, a blood sugar marker
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), a thyroid marker
- Cortisol and DHEA
- Estradiol (E2)
- Progesterone or testosterone, depending on the version you choose
myLAB Box lists symptoms it links to the test, including fatigue, sleep problems, high body fat, decreased muscle mass and low sex drive. Those symptoms have many possible causes, and a single test doesn't explain them. That's why the results are best treated as a starting point for a conversation with a clinician.
Female vs male versions
You choose "Female" or "Male" when you order. Both cost $239. myLAB Box describes the test as measuring "Progesterone/Testosterone", so the difference between the two versions is which of those two hormones is included. Check the version description before you buy to confirm what yours covers.
How it works
- Order the kit. myLAB Box says kits ship in discreet packaging. The kit comes with everything you need and a prepaid return envelope.
- Collect your samples. This means a finger prick for a few drops of blood, plus a saliva sample. myLAB Box says you don't need to fast or change your diet first, and you shouldn't stop any medication without talking to your doctor. It provides PDF and video instructions, and says collection takes about five minutes.
- Mail it back. myLAB Box says it uses CLIA- and CAP-accredited US labs.
- Get your results. These usually arrive 2 to 5 days after the lab receives your sample. You'll get an email, then log in to view them, with the option to download a PDF to share with your doctor.
myLAB Box's general FAQ mentions a free physician phone consultation if you test positive. That wording is written with its infection tests in mind, and the weight loss test page doesn't say how it applies to a hormone panel. If a consultation matters to you, ask myLAB Box customer service before you buy.
Timing for a new-year plan: leave room for shipping both ways, plus 2 to 5 days at the lab. Ordering in early December should get you results before January, as long as the holidays don't slow the mail.
What it costs
- $239 for the kit, female or male version.
- Free shipping on orders over $150, which this kit qualifies for.
- FSA/HSA cards accepted. myLAB Box says its home tests don't need insurance or copays.
- Not available in New York State at the moment.
myLAB Box's own disclaimer says its tests are for wellness monitoring and "not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure disease". It also says any further care is your responsibility to arrange with your own healthcare provider.
Alternatives worth comparing
1. Ask your primary care doctor. If you have a doctor and insurance, they can order blood tests they think are relevant. What you pay depends on your plan, so check with your insurer. A doctor may also choose different tests from a ready-made kit.
2. A cash-price visit and labs through Sesame. If you don't have a regular doctor, Sesame offers cash-price visits from $34 with licensed clinicians, who can talk through what's worth testing. Sesame's membership page lists an HbA1c lab test at $27 and a standard health panel (CBC, CMP, UA, A1c and lipid) at $45. Sesame Plus annual members ($99 a year) get one free lab a year, though not in Washington State. Prices vary by region, and a lab test usually means giving a sample at a lab location rather than at home. Those panels don't include the hormone markers in the myLAB Box kit.
| Option | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|
| myLAB Box At Home Weight Loss Test | 6 markers, collected at home | $239 |
| Sesame HbA1c lab test | Blood sugar marker only | $27 (free once a year with Sesame Plus annual) |
| Sesame standard health panel | CBC, CMP, UA, A1c, lipid | $45 (or your free annual lab with Sesame Plus) |
| Your own doctor | Tests your doctor orders | Depends on your insurance |

3. Clinician-led weight care. If you're thinking about prescription weight care, our weight care section covers FDA-approved options only.
So, is it worth $239?
It depends on what you want. If you want the convenience of collecting samples at home, getting six markers in one go, and paying with HSA or FSA money, the kit does what it says. If cost matters most and you mainly want blood sugar and thyroid numbers, a doctor-ordered test or a cash-price lab is likely to cost less. Whichever you choose, take the results to a licensed clinician rather than drawing conclusions on your own.
